Simon Says: Blindsight - Mysterious Type of Consciousness on Recovery Now

Kim and CoHost Simon will be discussing the phenomenon of Blindsight. The term was coined by psychologist Lawrence Weiskrantz and his colleagues in a paper published in Brain in 1974. Blindsight is a term used to describe a level of consciousness that allows some people with visual impairments, the ability to respond to visuals they can't consciously see. Simon happens to be one of those people.
Join as we revisit Simon's survivor story, and how he came to discover his Blindsight, as well as the possible implications of these now widely accepted occurrences.
This show is a gathering place for anyone seeking recovery from the challenges of life on life's terms. We discuss useful tools that have helped us lighten the load, of our journey through recovery. This is a "we" recovery program, because it is in the "we," that we find the new "me."
We focus on the four A's of Recovery: Awareness, Acceptance, Action and Adaptation. This is a place for survivor's striving to become thrivers, which takes a good bit of Warrior!

Robert Fraser, Ph.D is a professor in the University of Washington's Dept of Rehabilitation Medicine, jointly with the Departments of Neuro Surgery, Neurology, and consultant to the Social Security Admin. Dr. Fraser is a certified rehab counselor & life care planner. He directs Neurological Vocational Services within Rehab Medicine, specializing in brain injury, epilepsy and MS. He has co-authored numerous articles and four text books to include TBI Rehabilitation.
This show is a gathering place for anyone seeking recovery from the challenges of life on life's terms. I introduce topics, and survivor's share their experience, strength and hope. We discuss useful tools that have helped us lighten the load, of our journey through recovery.

Since the pandemic, nurses, and medical professionals have experienced a burnt-out in their professionals. April Kapu who spearheads the American Association of Practitioners sends encouragement, empowerment, and impact to nurses and medical professionals around the globe for "Nurses Week."Dr. April Kapu is an acute care nurse practitioner and was recently appointed as Associate Dean for Clinical and Community Partnerships, Vanderbilt University School of Nursing. Prior to her role as dean, she served as an associate chief nursing officer for advanced practice nursing, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. There she led as a nursing executive for the health system, leading a nationally recognized advanced practice program, establishing innovative, high quality, and value-driven advanced practice healthcare services. Dr. Kapu is a Professor of Nursing and educator in Vanderbilt's DNP program. She has led several grant-funded research projects, has presented often for national and international conferences, has authored chapters in advanced practice nursing textbooks, and has published manuscripts in numerous peer-reviewed medical and nursing journals. She holds several professional roles including Fellow for the Society of Critical Care Medicine, Fellow for the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and Fellow for the American Academy of Nursing. Prior to being elected as president of AANP, Dr. Kapu served as Tennessee State Representative and later as Region 4 Director for the AANP Board of Directors. She is an active member of the Tennessee Nurses Association, served as past chair for the TN Government Affairs Committee and TN APRN Committee, and represented TN NPs on the TN Governor's special commission focused on pain and addiction treatment education.
