True Birth of CHRIST Pt 10: NIMROD King of Babel! ! !

    in The Bible

The Babylonians, in their popular religion, supremely worshipped a Goddess Mother and a Son, who was represented in pictures and in images as an infant or child in his mother s arms
From Babylon, this worship of the Mother and the Child spread to the ends of theearth. In Egypt, the Mother and the Child were worshipped underthe names of Isis and Osiris, f In India, even to this day, as Isi and Iswara ; J in Asia, as Cybele and Deoius ; in Pagan Konie, asFortuna and Jupiter-puer, or Jupiter, the boy ; || in Greece, as Ceres, the Great Mother, with the babe at her breast, 1 !! or as Irene, thegoddess of Peace, with the boy Plutus in her arms ; ** and even inThibet, in China, and Japan, the Jesuit missionaries were astonishedto find the counterpart of Madonna and her child as devoutly worshipped as in Papal Rome itself ; Shing Moo, the Holy Mother in China, being represented with a child in her arms, and a glory around her, exactly as if a Roman Catholic artist had been employed to set her up.

Episode 342: The Mandela Effect in the Bible, Part Two--The Angel of Death

    in Christianity

In their new series, pastors Erica, Sarah, and Steve explore characters we would have SWORN were in the Bible, but turn out to be fictions, mistaken recollections, or all-out mash-ups of other biblical characters into something new.  That phenomenon of collectively misremembering and event or person is sometimes called the Mandela Effect, and it turns out we do it quite a bit with the Bible.  That's especially true when we get our mental picture of Bible stories from pop culture, movies, and TV shows, rather than wrestling with the actual text.  And in this episode we look at a classic example from the story of the Exodus.  When Moses sets the enslaved Hebrews free from the clutches of the evil Pharaoh, the last straw that finally pushes the Egyptian king to release them is the death of the firstborn of every Egyptian family.  But who or what is responsible for those deaths?  In pop culture we have invented a figure called "the angel of death" as the entity who has been given this dirty work to do, but in the storytelling of Exodus itself, it's God who strikes down the firstborn.  So what difference does it make, and where do we see ourselves in this story?  Join this conversation to explore all these questions, along with some pop culture signposts ranging from The Prince of Egypt and Cecil B. DeMille's The Ten Commandments to Game of Thrones and American Gods.  Join us for the conversation here on Crazy Faith Talk!

About Religion

Few things in life set us apart as distinctly as what we believe (or don't believe). From the most fervent among us to those just beginning to explore the possibilities, religion is a powerful force in our lives. BlogTalkRadio is where believers and nonbelievers of every denomination gather day in and day out to find resources, preach to others practicing and discuss the specific belief systems that guide us, bind us and often divide us. Christians, Pagans, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Pantheists, Sikhs, Jews, Wiccans, Unitarians, Satanists, Druids, Agnostics, Atheists, Secular Humanists and more will find likeminded friends to dialogue with, whether in heated debates or in collective prayer. You'll hear from bestselling authors, world leaders and kindred followers for inspiration and fellowship. And for those listeners and hosts who consider themselves spiritual but not religious, we've even got a separate Spirituality category to explore beliefs on your own terms.
