Brother Basil O'Leary's 1991 letter to me of foreshadowing democratic collapse

Jane will read her letter from Brother Basil O'Leary who was a professor of economics and theology at St. Mary's College in Winona, Minnesota.  He made a lot of impact on students until he was arrested Sept. 24, 1968 for participating in the stand around or witness movement, burning over 10,000 draft cards with 13 colleagues, five who were men of cloth.

Brother Basil K. O'Leary letter talks about how he was an increasingly disillusioned advocate of change.  He was not even sure of the impact of a message so powerful as to burn federal draft cards and what it would mean for the community.  But slowly, through his experience in prison and even well received reception by prison administrators as messengers of the peace movement he came to be useful there and in future opportunities.  He became the chair of the non violence center in Notre Dame University for 10 years and made a long lasting impression.

We will compare his noble form of resistance with the raw resistance of the anti Trump movement.
