The Rapture - 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
This letter may be the earliest of the letters of Paul that we have, it was 20 years after Jesus died and rose again to life. Paul established many of the New Testament Church. Many times, there were problems that arose in the church and Paul wrote these letters to teach things that would help reassure the Christian in their Christian walk.
Then Paul, as his custom was, went in explaining and demonstrating that Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, “This Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christ.” And some of them were persuaded; and a great multitude, joined Paul and Silas. The Church of Thessalonian was now established.
Later Paul sent Timothy back to Thessalonica to see what was happening with that church. Remember the Thessalonians was fairly new Christians, babes in Christ and still growing without full knowledge. The Christians had many questions and needed more teaching. So, the purposes of this letter included: To express the joy and to give thanks to God for the good news that Timothy brought. There was a misunderstanding concerning Christ’s second coming, some thought Christ would return immediately, thus, they were confused about what would happen to their loved ones died before His return.
14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleeps in Jesus will God bring with him.
