This week on PNN/EJR I will be talking about two garbage rulings coming out of what has been called–”the Trumpiest Court in America”--aka the 5th Circuit federal court. Manned by judges appointed by George W. Bush, and of course TRUMP–they have systematically attacked both free speech rights and the right to assemble–providing you are on the left–or NOT white enough. The 5th Circuit has also attacked the right to be “secure in our homes”--with the most recent ruling on police abuse during an attempted arrest. Apparently, if the police enter your home during hot pursuit of a suspect, (even though you are NOT harboring said suspect); they can get away with destroying your home and never have to pay restitution.
That is story #1.
Story #2 deals with a decision stating that protest leaders can and will be held civilly liable for violent acts committed by others–even if the perpetrators are on the other side. The implications for what should be constitutionally protected protest and other forms of peaceable dissent are grave.
