In a new series for Lent 2022, pastors Erica, Sarah, and Steve unpack a BIG IDEA of Christian theology that we rarely think about deeply--what do we actually mean when we talk about "sin"? We probably have some shallow assumptions about what the idea of "sin" is all about, but chances are, we haven't looked more deeply at the surprising variety of understandings the Bible itself employs to talk about the "problem" of sin. Sometimes even realizing that there ARE different ways of understanding sin can be a wake-up call, as well as the realization that each picture the Scriptures give us has strengths and limits to it--so we need all of them to have an honest diagnosis of our human condition. In this first episode, we explore the probably-familiar idea that sin is when people break God's rules and incur divinely appointed penalties. We'll look at where this idea comes from, how it can be helpful, and also how it can run off the rails if we misunderstand it. Join us for some faithful conversation about some things we might need to think more deeply about together here on this week's Crazy Faith Talk.
