October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Domestic Violence can affect individuals from all walks of life. 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men will be victims of domestic violence in their lifetime. Domestic violence can be defined as a pattern of behaviors in any relationship that is used to gain or maintain power and control of an intimate partner. The abuse can be physical, sexual, emotional, economic or spiritual. What many individuals may not realize is the impact that verbal and emotional abuse can have on a relationship or one's self esteem. What also makes it domestic is the relationship as there are different types of abuse.
