Many would want to believe that a parent or caregiver would not want to  knowingly expose or place any child in any hurt, harm, or danger. However truth be told many individuals are unaware as to what constitute childhood trauma yet have the knowledge as to how to obtain assistance. There are also many adults that continue to suffer from their own childhood traumatic incidents or experiences.Childhood trauma is an event, situation, or environment that one experience as a child that may leave the child feeling vulnerable or like they can not count on the world or others to keep them safe or cared for.

Childhood Trauma is defined as the experience of an event as a child where one may experience symptoms that may be emotionally painful or distressful which detention results in lasting mental and physical effects. 

There are several different types of childhood traumas: Abuse or Neglect of Child, Trauma in a child's household environment such as substance abuse, parental separation or divorce, exposure to or residing with a mentally ill or suicidal household member, violence in the home, imprisoned household member, and living in poverty. 

Children can also experience trauma as they experience stress from interpersonal traumas, accidents, natural disasters, war, civil unrest, bullying/cyber bullying as well as medical procedures or the sudden loss of a parent or caregiver. Such could result in symptoms of PTSD. If left untreated or addressed the aftermath can carry over into one's adult life. Such can cause difficulties in ones interpersonal relationships as one may develop a false self, engage in victim hood thinking, demonstrate passive aggressive behaviors, behave in a passive manner or develop co dependent behaviors.
