Sexual assaults affect many lives both directly and indirectly. It is a crime that spans age, sexual orientation, religion and gender, and affects people of all socialeconomic backgrounds and educational levels. It is estimated that one in five and one ine 71 men are raped in the US. That is more that 23.6 million survivors. Sexual Assault is any type of sexual contact or behavior that occurs withou the explicit consent of the recipient. This can be sexual assaults, sexual activities as forced sexual intercourse, forcible sodomy, child molestation, incest, fondling and attempted rape or forcible rape. Men as well as women, adults, teens and children have been victim an assault. The incident can occur in the home, schools, community, workplace including the military. Sometimes the assault is committed by a stranger. Most often it is committed by someone the person may know. Sexual violence is always wrong. Individuals that are sexually abused may suffer serious health problems and develop mental health symptoms. Many individuals are still holding onto their trauma. This however can continue to have a negative impact on their personal life and effect their personal relationships with others. One may also exhibit behavioral problems.
