Dr. James and Semaj Brown stops by Good Deeds w/ Dr. Renee Sunday. Never in her wildest dreams, did Semaj Brown, co-founder of the Planted Kingdom Project ever imagine transforming herself into vegetable characters and bringing them into life. Nor did her husband, Dr. James Brown, a family physician, ever think that he would be her front man, warming up audiences with his humor, telling his story of how his wife saved him from his daily fast food diet, and ultimately saved his life. What did he do next? He proposed, they married, and the two have gone on to make history, transforming lives in their Flint, Michigan community.
Semaj Brown created vegetarian meals that are savory and satisfying, that would prove to help the couple lose weight. "Adopting a new healthy lifestyle of eating plant based foods, and exercise, was key to our losing a combined 200 pounds," says Semaj. After losing 75 pounds, Dr. Brown decided to motivate his patients and others in the community with his "Pounds Down Challenge", where the individual who loses the most weight wins $1,000.00. "Money is a motivating factor, for sure. January 25th, we will present our third "Pounds Down Challenge" winner, which is sponsored by my practice."
The Browns took to the airwaves hosting radio talk show programs, where Dr. Brown would answer health related questions, and the couple created the segment: "What's for Dinner Mrs. Brown?" Semaj, an accomplished poet, began to creatively give a voice to the vegetables that were the "stars" of her recipes.
