Roy L. Williams is the founder and CEO of Williams Writing Solutions, a full-service PR/writing consulting company founded in January 2014, putting his 25 years of journalism experience to work for others.

Before that, Roy was a director of marketing for Holy Family Cristo Rey Catholic High School in Birmingham. Roy spent 23 years as a reporter for The Birmingham News, building a loyal following among readers, politicians and business leaders for his coverage of personal finance, workplace, small/minority businesses, tourism and hospitality.

Roy is an example of how journalists can transform their writing and research skills into other professions. Since August 2013, he has been host of Biz Talk With Roy Williams on WAGG Heaven 610 AM, Birmingham’s only radio talk show devoted solely to business issues.

Roy is the author of “911, God Help Us,” a memoir about how he coped with the loss of his oldest brother, Maj Dwayne Williams, who died in the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon. Roy’s work as a journalist, author and motivational speaker won him the 2012 Emory Jackson A.G. Gaston Award, and Southeast Small Business Magazine named him in October 2012 among the 40 Most Influential Men in Birmingham. He was featured in the 2014 edition of Who’s Who in Black Alabama. Roy was also recipient of the 2007 Will Sutton Community Service Award from the National Association of Black Journalists.

A founding member of the Tower of Prayer in Leeds, Roy graduated from Jacksonville State University with a Bachelor’s degree in English and serves on its Communications Advisory Board. He lives in Birmingham with his wife, Patrice, daughter Naja, 14, and son Royce, 12.
