More than 30 years have passed since the development of the famous 360 reviews. Since then, they haven’t changed much although the work culture has completely shifted. 360’s incentivize leaders to focus on the wrong data which leads to wrong decisions in today’s environment. On this episode, Michael will share how focusing on emotional intelligence, leadership teams can achieve measurable results, elevate overall company culture, and make employees more engaged.
Join us as we discuss why reviews don’t work!

We have a great show. For our first show for 2023, we are remembering James Lipton. James Lipton was the iconic dean of the Actors Studio. You might know James Lipton for his popular show "Inside the Actors Studio." On each episode, Mr. Lipton would ask actors a series of questions in front of a live audience, which typically consisted of students. What I loved about Mr. Lipton's interview style was that he knew more about his guests than they knew about their own lives. At the end of each show, he would ask a series of questions inspired by Bernard Pivot. In one instance, I interviewed actor, friend, and founder of Telephone Doctor Nancy Friedman on my weekly podcast Franchise Interviews. Listen to Nancy's responses.

Raising our game as communicators is the best way to make a difference in our careers and relationships, but it takes courage to find our voice, open up, and invite others to open up to us. As a life-long communication coach, Michelle Gladieux has discovered four obstacles keeping us from becoming the best communicators we can be:
Hiding: Fear of exposing our supposed weaknesses Defining: Putting too much stock into our assumptions, being quick to judge Rationalizing: Leaning on pessimism to shield ourselves from taking chances, engaging in conflict, or doing other scary but potentially rewarding actions Settling: Stopping at “good enough” instead of aiming for something better in interactions Michelle Gladieux is the author of 'Communicate with Courage: Taking Risks to Overcome the Four Hidden Challenges' and President of Gladieux Consulting, a Midwest-based team known for top-notch design and presentation of seminars in communication and leadership topics around the U.S. She provides executive coaching and facilitates strategic planning for clients in diverse industries, in governments, at non-profits, and in academia. Michelle has mentored thousands of people and her positive effect on those she advises is evident even after just one interaction. Her clients and friends are delighted she's finally documented some of her best tips (AKA "Pro Moves") in Communicate with Courage.
