"Be careful what you ask for" 1 Samuel 8
You better know what you are asking for, because you might just get it!
In Jewish history, before Israel was ruled by kings, they were guided by the wisdom of judges, holy but imperfect men of God who were appointed to deliver the people from their oppressors and to counsel them on how to live in a manner pleasing and acceptable to their God. The people now want a King to rule over them.
It is often said that a hind to the wise should be sufficient. God gave them a full picture what would happen, not could happen because of their choices. We know that there are always consequences for our action, good or bad. Jesus death, burial and resurrection took away the sins of all those who would, accept, believe and confess that He is Lord, but He lets us know the consequences of our sins belong to us. God wanted them to know that He was their King with all power in His hand.
