Our guest Dr. Clarence Willie is a retired Lt. Col. in the USMC, a speaker, author, former school superintendent and served as interviewer and consultant for a documentary production entitled THE MARINES OF MONTFORD POINT: FIGHTING FOR FREEDOM, which chronicles the experiences of the first African Americans to serve as United States Marines.  The documentary was narrated by Academy Award winning actor, Louis Gossett Jr. and has aired nationally on the Public Broadcasting System and local markets nationwide.

His new book AFRICAN AMERICAN VOICES FROM IWO JIMA: PERSONAL ACCOUNTS OF THE BATTLE details the stories of eleven veterans, who were among nearly 1,000 African Americans who participated in the Iwo Jima campaign, who personally contributed their memories and accounts of their experiences as young men growing up during the Depression, their enlistment in the military, the battle itself and their adult life upon returning home.  It's available at McFarlandPub.com, Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com and bookstores everywhere.
