The Guardian's Carole Cadwalladr's investigation into Cambridge Analytica's role in Brexit has led her to Russian connections and the Trump campaign. She says British investigators are now "working very closely with the FBI."  Breitbart news also had a hand in trying to influence more conservative voters into a definitive decision over exiting the EU. Robert Mercer, who is a billionaire hedge fund owner, was the primary financial supporter of the Trump Campaign.  He also owns Cambridge Analytica who breached privacy data for thousands of Britains.  Bannon was the VP or Cambridge Analytica.  Trump invited a shoddy Englishman, Nigel Farage, on stage in the summer of 2016 saying he was a main contributor to Brexit.  Trump said " If Brexit can happen in Britain, I can get elected."  Robert Mercer funded Bannon who enabled Farage to have influence.  CA also gave money to Luke Oil in Russia and promoted seminars like "Manipulating foreign elections."
