Requiem for the American Dream: Noam Chomsky; Fed Paper 10- Madison

The achitects of power, the merchants and manufacturers who are sometimes referred to ast the Masters of mankind or the manipulators of capitalism  were described by Adam Smith as the anti-thesis to an egalitarian democracy with principles.  James Madison helped designed the constitution to protect the ruling class.  Vertical mobility of the class system, the essential American dream should allow for upward mobility, progressing to high levels of skill & acquistion.  Not necessarly class nobility but the ability to progress your dream to a higher level of realization.  However, with the recent disparity of unprecendented wealth of only a few, the concentration of wealth yields to a more concentrated power which leaks into other institutions like Congress as an attempt to control it.  That is why candidates on some levels have become representatives of the opulent business structure, almost an unseen hand of manipulations that deny any real recognition of injustice such as police brutality.

As defined by Madison, a faction was a number of citizens, whether a majority or minority, who were united and activated "by some common impulse of passion, or of interest, adverse to the rights of other citizens, or to the permanent and aggregate interests of the community."
