Ryan Seacrest's new show Becoming Us, Television reality vs. real life situation

Is it too graphic to present a show about a sex change operation and how it affects kids?  Or is it a good cultural learning tool that will soften myths about transgendering parents?  I had a friend in Reseda who transgendered and her son later rejected her.
