This week on the HR Happy Hour Show, it’s the return of “Workplace Movie Hall of Fame” with a deep dive into the 2019 Academy Award winning documentary “American Factory”, the workplace story set in post-financial crisis Ohio, and what happens when a Chinese billionaire opens a new factory in the shell of an abandoned General Motors automotive plant.

Steve and Trish talked about some of they interesting and challenging workplace themes and ideas raised in the movie - how American and Chinese workplace attitudes toward commitment and responsibility to the organization can be very different, how the simple concept of leadership probably does not translate as clearly as we think it might, and how we would all be better off in this global economy to spend more time getting to know and better understand each other’s culture and point of view.

We also discussed some of our own thoughts and observations based on our trips to China over the last five years and our experiences working in the Chinese culture. We love doing the Workplace shows, we hope you enjoy.
