Dorothea Hubble Bonneau is an award-winning tri-racial novelist, produced playwright and optioned screenwriter. Inspired by a quest for justice, her work is informed by her love of family, nature, and the family nature, + the literary arts.

Born in Aurora, Colorado on October 10, 1944 when her father was serving as a medic in World War II. She spent the first 6 yrs of her life as an Air Force daughter living in the South + in Panama. Her father instilled in her a love of adventure, a can-do attitude + the injunction to live by the Golden Rule. Her mother, an artist, fostered her creativity.

Her beloved 28 Yr old father died of a parachute accident when she was 6. An only child, she moved to Denver, her mother’s family home. There she was influenced by her grandmother, a writer + a Divine Science teacher, who enrolled her in drama classes for children + instilled in her the belief that, as Teilhard de Chardin says, we are spiritual beings having a human experience.

Dorothea, longed to communicate W/ her father, spoke to him in her heart until her first out of body experience. At 13 yrs old he appeared to her in spirit form, hovering near her ceiling. Her subtle body rose up to join him, but he gestured for her not to follow him. “I have to go on now, but you have work to do.", he said.

Writes: “Experiences woven into the creation of Once in a Blood Moon include: learning slaves helped my ancestor to escape certain death in the slave quarters of a South Carolina plantation; being a Peace Corps Volunteer in Tanzania, East Africa; studying with Dhyani Ywahoo, Cherokee elder; directing musical theater; learning about what it is like to be marginalized from my son Dave who had Down syndrome + the untimely death of two of my seven sons.”
