A staple in the Austin Jazz community, Sarah Sharp is a singer that embodies the cool-jazz era of the 1940s. Sharp has topped the Austin Music Award Polls for Best Female Vocalist, Best Producer, Best Songwriter, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Band of the Year, and Best Jazz Band. She has been featured on NPR’s “Song Travels with Michael Feinstein” where he suggested some of her original songs were destined to become standards.
Sway starts as a Jazz EP with standards “Oh What A Beautiful Morning” a nod to Peggy Lee’s version and “Everytime WE Say Goodbye,” clearly displaying her jazz background before continuing on to remind us that she is, and always will be a southern girl. With her rockabilly influenced originals like “ Your Girlfriend hates me” to ther iconic “Always On My Mind,” that has been performed by countless country icons such as Elvis Presley and Willie Nelson.
Sarah Sharp holds nothing back as she paints a clear picture of her musical identity from its inspiration to its realization.
