Todays show: Interview show with Steve Ryals, The Feelings Coach: Former Speed Freak and Alcoholic Reveals How to Break the Madness of Addiction Forever. Steve Ryals, lives off the electrical grid in Northern California, has a publishing company, has been a freelance music reviewer for 15 years, has made and lost over a million dollars, and has been studying mind/body health his entire adult life. Steve is very knowledgeable about the interface between science, spirituality, philosophy, religion and metaphysics. His book, Drunk with Wonder: Awakening to the God Within, is a synthesis of much of the literature to date (with exhaustive bibliography), combined with his own story of going from homeless and shooting methedrine (speed) to graduating from U.C. Berkeley on the Dean's List. Steve is a long time supporter of Challenge Day, as recently featured on Oprah. Recent research indicates that teaching emotional literacy, including safe and responsible ways to deeply feel emotions, is crucial to healthy relationships and physical vitality. The ultimate goal is social harmony, which is a central component of a sustainable future and lasting peace in the world. The thesis of Drunk with Wonder is that emotions fully felt inevitably shift. Through learning to be present with his own deep feelings, Steve was able to let go of years of addictive behavior, including decades of alcohol abuse. He attributes his current health and happiness to his direct experience that "healing takes feeling" and says that the healthy, safe and appropriate sharing of feelings is key to a wonder-filled life.
