LIVING THE VALUES

As we go about our business, each interprets the challenge presented to us in lodges trying to find a moving balance point. In this article I want to examine this process to see if this is close to our intentions. I've been explaining how influences have impacted masonry where I live, to provide context for what is coming next. I would suggest when lodges approach a values based good life, a mark of their success is the way they communicate their respect for the process. In laboratories and meeting rooms where decisions are being made, I've always encountered a respect and gravitas.  Even certain topics elicit dignity, not that the reaction will be similar.  CERN, JAMES WEBB SPACE TELESCOPE, FUSION, TOLSTOY; words that themselves draw attention to the human condition.  Most men may think Masonry is completely unique, and by assocation being part of that membership they too are unique.  Masonry is one of the  mind maps available to mankind.  Kabbalah, (religions), Tarot, Astrology, Numerology, will by necessity provoke strong opinion.  We impose our own sense of legitimacy but being capable for understanding but not entirely understanding the appeal. Fortunately the Masonry encourages examination, limited by individual curiosity and motivation. Some men push back on the serious questions. Others must examine them.  Does a man appear to demonstrate he has found happiness by understanding the link between happiness and virtue? Aristotle made that observation and history passed it along, where eventually 'freemasonry' incorporated it into ritual practice. Agency being what it is, never allowed this to be orthodoxy. Masonry requires individual understanding, having drawn for us the belief that logic and reasoning will eventually draw us all to validate the design of our practices. Meanwhile, while we are students we beging to assume certain mannerisms, that show us to be inclined.
