LEAPING INTO MY UNKNOWN

Curious.  Something happens in the mind of a mason and I am one who believes it is important to share the experience, as a way of connecting with each other at a spiritual level. Today we live cheek and jowl with networks of networks. The internet has become a digital 'tree of life' a source of information and understanding. It also contains jetsome and flotsome and plenty of it.  Google Scholar may still be a filter between nonsense and legitimate science but that does not change the mainstream influences of monsters and fools. Does this negate the value? Not in the slightest.  I like to travel by car, to see sites, visit friends, have adventures going to unfamilar places, with unfamiliar people.  That is not diminished when the menace driving when he shouldn't or places others at risk. We propose a philosophical understanding is achieveable, knowing it will attract sensitive, observant types but knowing it also brings in scurrilous adventurers and materialists. Why do we find it impossible to weed out the chafe? There are some very good answers, but they aren't popular.  For instance, applying masonic values when selecting an applicant requires a certain maturity of thinking. Evidence shows when knowledge of the methodology is lacking the results are feckless. It is a question we ought to put to curious bystanders- why? why do you want to become a mason? To be effective that mentor would need to offer his own understanding. The difference is between what and why.  What makes a mason is much different than why. Masonry offers us a ways of thinking that illustrate plausible motivations, and a map showing how to get where we want to go. It does not tell us those answers. It teaches us the mathematics, leaving the question entirely in our hands. Does this week out politicians and ambitions? No of course not. The transformation happens in the mind, awareness that translates shows up action.
