The History of Vaccines and Dissolving Illusions

I know what you are thinking. Another vaccine debate. I have had my fair share of discussions about vaccines, and then I ran across a really great article by Dr. Suzzane Humphries. she points out that this heated debate is much more complicated than many people understand, including how an infant’s immune system develops and why.  Oh, and the smallpox vaccine history is probably not what you think it is.

Wheter or not you are "pro" or "anti" vaccine is irrelevant. You can't truly give your informed consent if you don't know all the facts right?

1. Everybody knows vaccines work don't they? How is it possible that polio which was rampant before is not longer apparently because of the vaccine?  We don't see pertusses, tetanus and other vaccine "preventable" illness as much as we did in the past. It can't be all from increase cleanliness. 

2. Gardisil is being pushed on teens. There is evidence isn't there that it reduces the risk of cervical cancer? 

3. Other experts say that the reasons vaccines aren't good is because of the mercury, aluminum and detergents that are put in it that aren't necessary, but what if they made it without these toxic or allergenic components? Other argue that conspiracy theorists are just scaring people into a dangerous situation of not getting childhood vaccines as they point to the evidence of "outbreaks" of whooping cough or meningitis in school populations. What does the scientific evidence say?
