Genesis 32:30 So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, “It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared.”

when we come face to face with God we must understand that God sees us for who and what we are. Jacob the son of Isaac, had gained all he had under a false identitiy. He lied to his brother, to steal the birthright, he lied to his father to steal the blessing, He played the game of deception to with his uncle and stole the majority of his possessions including both daughters. Now, Jacob struggles with the paranoia of relatiation from his Father and Uncle, but especially his brother. When we come to the scripture here, Jacob is about to cross over into another territory, but he cannot go in the mode he is in.. He must come to grips with reality and end the cycle of deception.
