Her works have won commendations like the American Library Association’s Best Fiction Books For Young Readers, the Simon Wiesenthal Once Upon A World Book Award and the Sydney Taylor Book Awards. Shirley graduated from Cornell University. She runs storybee.org, a free storytelling platform. In addition, Shirley fosters dogs without a home.
