Interview with Tanya Marie Harris & Wildflower

TANYA MARIE HARRIS admits to being somewhat of a late bloomer as far as Country music goes. “Growing up, we listened to a lot of rock more than anything. My mom never listened to Country – unless it was Patsy Cline,” she recalled of her formative years in Ontario. However, a trip into the southern United States changed all of that. “A little later on, I went on a trip to South Carolina, and they had so many Country radio stations around, so I got my first taste of it then. I went home and started listening to it, and watching CMT. I fell in love with the fact that I could understand it. Country is straight-forward, taking a page out of someone’s life and putting it to song. It was always a story that was relatable and understandable.” Tanya is currently working on a seven song EP with several of the songs already available at iTunes including the current single - now released to US radio - called Second Hand Dreams.

WILDFLOWER brings a unique blend of folk-roots & rock to their own brand of Country music. As with most musical journeys, Wildflower started with a song. Singer–songwriters Jennie Clarke (vocals) and Dean Selby (vocals, guitar) first met in a Calgary recording studio in 2012, and an instant chemistry and creative connection emerged. It wasn’t long before the two began writing & performing together. Recently honoured with a nomination for 2013 Group/Duo of the Year by the Association of Country Music in Alberta, and Top 10 Regional finalists in the prestigious CBC Searchlight competition in 2014, Wildflower is ready to make their mark on the Canadian Country music scene. Their first full-length album will be released in August 2014. Entitled Long Road, the album name is fitting considering the journey these two have taken to get to this point in their musical careers.
