A Chat in the Garden with Monique A. J. Smith

JaMetria played basketball at Jarvis Christian University. She graduated with a B.A. of Business Administration with a concentration in Management with honors. She was Salutatorian and assisted the SID. 

After Jarvis, she attended Sam Houston State University and earned a Master of Science in Sports Management. She interned for the Houston Rockets, Dynamo, Astros, and NRG Park to assist with the Houston Rodeo.

Later, she became assistant women’s basketball coach at Southwestern University. She went on to become Director of Athletics for IDEA Public Schools. She's coached top athletes in the Austin Metro Area through AAU basketball. She's been awarded Master Coaching, Coach of the Year 2022, Best Field Athletic Field of the Year, and Athletic Director of the Year. Her expertise as a professional is building relationships and doing workshops to help coaches develop people skills, implementing strategies for operations of athletic facilities, and player development on and off the field/court. 

She recently accepted a new role as Head Girls Basketball Coach for Roosevelt High school and Director of Football Operations. She also has a podcast “The Women’s Basketball Lounge” that discuss women’s basketball on all levels.
