Just like that it's February 3, 2024. Can you believe that this is the 34th day of 2024? That's to say time is rapidly passing by, sometimes more rapidly than we are aware of. That is why here on the Saturday Morning Entertainment show we celebrate. We celebrate events, we celebrate you the fans and togehter we celebrate life. If we don't do it now today it will swiftly pass by and we would lose the opportunity to enjoy it and create the memory of joyful days. And dont't forget there is so much that could dampen our day. So in the midst of celebration we'll have a conversation. So Let's Talk.
On Feb. 3, 1870 the Fifteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified sounding the guarantee of the right to vote regardless of race and expressing the intent to guarantee, in conjuction with the Fourteenth Amendment the civil rights of formerly enslaved people. This is an election year in the U.S. and many politicians will be enticing you to vote so that they can hold offices of authority. They will bombard you with rhetoric of great opportunity you have been afforded to be able to vote. As politicians vie for the power spots they validate racism and other forms of human exploitation. Yet many times you will hear that this is the greatest democracy in the world and that your are privileged to be living in it. Does democracy and its ritual of voting deliver on the promise of liberty and justice for all? If so how? If not then why do people continue to repeat this recitation? Does liberty and justice mean freedom from the ravages of racism, capitalism, sexism, poverty, homelessness, police brutality, wrongful convictions? Was slavery ever abolished? Come on in. Join the conversation or tell us what you want to talk about. We are always happy to hear from you.
