It's been a wonderful holiday season and we will continue to enjoy bringing you the entertainment that you look forward to and with your input we will make it even better. So it's celebration time coming to you from The Caribbean Global Voices. But with all the entertainment we take time out to have a conversation. So let's talk.

On January 26, Australians celebrate a national holiday called "Australia Day" . This year there has been numerous protests because the date of the celebration coincides with the arrival of British colonizers in Sydney Harbour in 1788.. The celebration of Australia day is similar to the celebration of Columbus Day in the America and the Caribbean. The indigenous people see no reason to celebrate. The arrival of the British is synonymous with beginning of a campaign of genocide against the indigenous people. The protesters damaged monumental statues of British Explorer James Cook and Queen Victoria and ar demanding that they be taken down completely. Indigenous Australians were the first to organize an international cricket tour to England and even though they were skillful and talended cricketers, they were excluded from selection to Australia's national teams. Of all the years that Australia has been involved in international cricket Jason Gillespie and Boland are the only two who have represented Australia at the National level. Current Australian cricket captain Pat Cummins chipped in to say that they should continue the celebration of Australia Day but change the date so that it does not coincide with the arrival of European settlers.
