The judge had to declare a mistrial in the trial of Gregory Case and his son Brandon after it was revealed in court that the police failed to turn over a statement that Gibson gave to police to both the prosecutor and the defense. Six white police officers of the Rankin County, Mississippi, Sheriffs Office pled guilty to state and federal charges for torturing two Black men, Michael Jenkins and Terrell Parker in their home just because they lived there. One officer, Elward put a gun in Jenkins mouth and pulled the trigger. This gang who call themselves the "Goon Squad" for the notorious use of excessive force are connected to other violent encounters with Black people some of which ended with death. They have never been prosecuted.
