The month of July is quietly slipping by and so today we will say one more greeting and have one more big celebration with the July celebrants. But don't forget that the Caribbean provides the greatest summer festival in the world. So it's from Vincy Mas in St. Vincent and the Grenadines to Crop Over in Barbados to St. John's Carnival in the USVI to Culturama in Nevis and Carnival in Antigua, Anguilla and the BVI. Take your pick and have a ball and the Caribbean Global Voices will be right here to celebrate with you through the Saturday Morning Entertainment Show with host Ivor Henry. But for all that we stop for a conversation. So Let's talk.
Is there anyone who did not hear of the diplomatic feud between the United States and Jamaica? It seems as if Jamaica has refused to extend diplomatic privilege to the same sex spouse of an American diplomat citing to Jamaican culture and laws. Jamaica will be celebrating 61 years of its Independence on August 6th, 2023. The United States has responded by refusing to extend the visas of Jamaican diplomats in Washington and is threatening Jamaica with sanctions. Is there any basis by which to conclude that Jamaica is wrong for not extending diplomatic privileges to a same sex spouse? Is the response from the United States appropriate? By what authority does United States claim the right to punish a people for adhering to what they consider to be their culture and laws? Does Jamaica's independence come with the right of sovereignty which is the entitlement to respect that is extended to all independent nations?
Come in. Join the conversation or tell us what you want to talk about. We will be happy to hear from you.
