It's July, and as usual its hot. There's lot's of sunshine and the Caribbean, the region of the world's greatest summer festival is heating up. And the Caribbean Global Voices is ready to celebrate the heat with you too. This is no time to get out of the kitchen but to enjoy the heat. So wherever you go to enjoy the summer take us with you. But don't forget, the social environment is raising lots of issues and conflicts therefore a conversation is always critically necessary. So Let's Talk.

R&B singer, Jill Scott, while performing at the Essence Festival in New Orleans on July 1, 2023, offered a renditon to the tune of America's National Anthem that goes like this: Oh say can you see by the blood in the streets/ That this place doesn't smile on you colored child/ Whose blood built this land with sweat and their hands/ But we'll die in this place with your memory erased / Oh say, does this truth hold any weight/ This not the land of the free, but the home of the slaves." Many people are really fired up and angry about this. They say it is anti-American. Someone even commented that Jill Scott who is Black have no right to speak of America as oppressive because she enjoys a comfortable lifestyle. What do you think? Is Jill Scott's lyrics relevant to today's social environment? Are they warranted in a public forum? Should they be suppressed because they express hatred for America? Come on in, join the conversation or tell us what you want to talk about. We'll be happy to hear from you.
