June just went by and now its the sound and celebration of July. So let's just say one last good bye to the people who celebrated in June and welcome to the people who celebrate in July. It's the first month of the second half of the year and we will celebrate that too. Bring your birthdays, births, weddings anniversaries and we will celebrate with you.
On Thursday the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the affirmative action admission policies of Harvard and the University of North Carolina are unconstitutional. Chief Justice John Roberts, writing the majority opinion stated that Harvard and UNC programs use race in an "unavoidably negative manner" and that eliminating racial discrimination means eliminating all of it. The universities can discuss how race affects the applicants life so long as that discussion is tied to a quality of character or unique ability that the applicant can contribute to the university. Justice Clarence Thomas in support, stated that the admission policies "fly in the face of a colourblind constitution". Justice Ketanji Brown-Jackson called the ruling "a tragedy for us all". What do you know of affirmative action? What do you think of it? What do you think of the decision? If you think it is wrong or right why? Can anything good come out of this? What does this opinion tell us about what Black people can reasonably expect in America? Come on in, join the conversation or tell us what you want to talk about. We will be glad to hear from you.
