It's Mother's tomorrow but we will we celebrate mothers today and say Happy Mother's Day. We invite your greetings to all the mothers around the world. And we'll have our conversation. So, Let's talk.
The Florida legislature just passed a law that was signed by its Governor, Ron De Santis, which would make it easier for Florida to execute someone convicted of a capital crime. Initially, a judge could impose the death penalty with a simple majority of the jury. Under this legal provision the U.S. Supreme Court invalidated most of the criminal convictions. So they changed to a 10-2 vote in favour of capital punishment. but still lost in the appeal courts. So in 2017 they changed it to a unanimous jury vote. However when 3 votes against execution allowed the Parkland shooter to escape the death penalty, Florida passed this law which would allow the death penalty to be imposed by an 8-4 jury vote in favour of execution. Does anyone have the inherent right to take the life of another? Can the Government create that right? Should the state be allowed to kill anyone who comits a crime? If the state already has the criminal in its custody and can prevent him from harming anyone, what value does killing him add? Isn't this plain old premeditated killing that the law defines as murder? What happens when an innocent person gets convicted for murder? Join the conversation. Tell us what you think or tell us what you want to talk about? We'll be happy to hear from you.
