Its February already and this is the time that most people think of celebrating "Black History Month". A people's history should not be relegated to an annual celebration but should be part of the curriculum that is the source of their education or else they could never really be educated. Nevertheless we will celebrate with you.So Caribbean Golbal Voices brings you the Saturday Morning Entertainment Show with host Ivor Henry. For the month of February we expect to bring an extra bit of info relating to the history and culture of Black people.
And may be it's a good time to talk about the efforts of Florida Governor Ron de Santis trying to erase the Black studies from all schools in Florida. Does anybody see the bold and blatantly racist implications of that policy? And if he gets away with it this would not be about De Santis, this would be about the people of Florida specifically and the United States generally.
It is tragic but we have gotten to the point where we are told Black people should be grateful if they walk away from police encounter alive. These were the sentiments I saw when a white female police officer in Burbank stopped a Black man on the street to interrogate him. She stopped him because of his sleeve tatoos. She wanted to assure herself that he was not on his way to commit crimes and to search him to satisfy herself that he did not have anything on him that was illegal. The is the kind of thing that give White people the assurance in their sense of security and value. Their police are there to protect and serve them and preserve the standards of white supremacy. What do you think? Come on in and join the conversation or tell us what you want to talk about. We'll be happy to hear from you.
