Former police officer, armed encounters expert and trainer Brian McKenna recounts a dozen real-life shootouts involving law enforcement in his new book, "Cops Under Fire!" available through the Oxford Southern imprint of Sunbury Press Books. In addition to the life-threatening events these officers survived, McKenna provides expert analysis, plus insight into these encounters. In addition, McKenna discusses use of force, self-defense and how police are trained to deal with such incidents.
Speaking with Sunbury Press Book Show host Lawrence Knorr, McKenna discusses his career, his work as an educator and instructor, the strengths of law enforcement training, and where that is lacking.
Brian McKenna resides in Hazelwood, Missouri, where he served as a police officer for most of his 33-year career. He is a state certified police instructor and has a Masters degree in Human Resource Development from National Lewis University. He has written widely on officer safety, notably the "Officer Down" column for Police Marksman Magazine.
