The Pulaski Saga takes readers back in time, to the Antebellum Period of the American South, through the Civil War, and years beyond.

Havre de Grace, Maryland, 1841 is the backdrop for Ben Pulaski, a sailor who returns home to find his house gone to a flood, and his family in disarray. Determined to remake himself, and get back on the good side of his long-suffering wife Sonja, Pulaski takes on an "Ugly Boat" to work in on the canalling trade.

An unscrupulous banker, strange characters, and old friends set the stage for a world that is changing. Ben finds himself traveling between the slave state of Maryland the free state of Pennsylvania, as slaves seek freedom, and the nation fractures.

"Pulaski's Canal" begins a long-running series, from the pen of author Robert Lackey. A writer, soldier, photographer and administrator, Lackey has studied the canal, its past life and the unique place occupied by Maryland in American History.

In addition to the Pulaski Saga, Lackey is the author of flash fiction, including the award-winning "A Tub in Memphis." A novel of "Havre de Grace" and "The Graw" are planned releases from Lackey in 2022 and 2023.
