Perhaps two of the most significant events of the post slavery - African American experience thus far were the efforts to desegregate public schools in America, in 1896 and 1954. Both were intended to empower African American children to live the American dream of Freedom and Independence. Today, approximately 64 years after the last effort there is great challenge to get too many Urban youth and communities to embrace the power and benefit of Education as a Civil Right.
