“Uncle Tom” Myth or Reality?

When it comes to defining the character and worth of African American manhood and in greater context, leadership of the African American subculture, there has been great disagreement for some time. The conflict has root in a social/political argument dating back to 1852, the year Harriet Beecher Stowe's novel - Uncle Tom’s Cabin was published. Most Historians agree that it instigated social and political tensions in the United States that ultimately morphed into the American Civil War. The fight was over the status and worth of the Negro in America.
