January 16, 1865, Union Army General, William Tecumseh Sherman promised newly freed slaves that as a way of making it up to them for the oppressive affects of slavery, they will receive Forty Acres and a Mule. The latter represented tools to become economically independent in their new life as American citizens. Now approximately one hundred and fifty-two years later many descendants of former slaves have become servants to urban hustles that lead to nowhere.
