The Ask Dr. Applewhite Radio Show is produced by the Students and Veterans of White Apple Institute (a Veteran operated nonprofit 501 c 3). We are dedicated to changing the perception of disabled to differently-abled to prevent dropout from school, work, and LIFE!
Host, Dr. Applewhite and the staff at White Apple Institute are frequently asked about how Veterans, students, and employees diagnosed with mental illness (i.e. Depression, Bipolar Anxiety Disorders) can feel comfortable seeking counseling and accommodations, at school and work, with so many negative stereotypes in the media. Instead of discussing the real issues of racism, discrimination, terrorism, and even gun control many choose to blame mental illness for shooting massacres, i.e. Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, the African Methodist Episcopal church in South Carolina, LGBT attack in Orlando, Florida, and so many more). Has the bombardment of news about deadly shootings as they relate to mental illness increased your apprehension to hire, teach and associate with persons who have mental health challenges? Our Special Guests are Dr. Beverly Poellnitz, Educator and Workforce Development Consultant from Maricopa Community College District, and Nazim Rashid, Life Coach, Personal Development Specialist, Author of Reconnected and Radio Talk-Show Host. Don’t miss the Vet2Vet Talk with Army Veterans Dr. Applewhite and Mitch Caviness as they discuss PTSD and other emotional challenges related to succeeding in the civilian workplace. This show is a rerun of Empowered to Heal from Mental Illness that aired previously on 2-15-14.
