Tuesday July 14th, 2020 from 4:00 pm. to 5:30 pm (EDT) Call In Number (657) 383-1630 Hello everyone, I am Leonna Abraham Brandao, Host for Blog Talk Radio/ Shedding Light and we have a very Interested Show today with a Special Guest from the Netherlands. Miriam Jacobs a psychosocial therapist and a BA philosopher, does extensive research into the penal systems and how they affect people. She has worked in the Dutch prison system with restorative justice, and from that experience, she has developed a vision on the approach of incarceration, called deeper justice. Deeper Justice means literally doing justice to oneself on a deeper level. This is further interpreted as the time in prison used for getting self-insight and from there, insight into what lead to the crime. So, it is not about why one committed his or her crime, but the question as to what actually lead to that moment he/she committed the crime. In this way, as Ms. Jacob has concluded, there is no judgement, but a search behind judgement for the person behind the incarcerated man or woman. I found Ms. Jacob to have enormous insight into the causes, effects, downfalls and unfortunate consequences into the lives of so many incarcerated individuals, and she is going to share her research and finding, in addition to her experiences in interacting with prisoners in the U.S. and the Netherlands. Miriam Jacobs will also touch base on communication from two complete different worlds, with different codes and cultures as in the free world, where there is this current fight against racism, while inside the penal system racism continues between incarcerated Whites, Blacks and Latinos. I won’t waste any more time talking. So, Let’s welcome Miriam Jacobs.
