As he journeys to the cross on Good Friday, Jesus turns to the crowd following him, and asks, "If they do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?" Here, our Lord points to himself as the perfect green tree who goes to the cross on our behalf. The Son of God dies for us. We are the dry trees. We deserve to punished for our rebellion against our Creator. But Christ pays the price so that we might have peace and reconciliation. By God's grace, we become green trees, alive in Christ.
