Today's show will be a journey through time with the music of slavery and civil rights periods as we continue our Black History Month celebration. During slavery, slaves would use a song as communication of plans regarding escaping the plantation to freedom. Lyrics in the song would determine the when, where, and how their march to freedom would occur. Although things had changed during the civil rights era, music was used as a call to arms to help change the atmosphere of racism and jim crow laws by singers and songwriters. Many of the songs have been interpreted by both religious leaders and folk tellers throughout history. Please join me today for a fun and informative show.
