In this first episode of a new series this summer, pastors Erica, Sarah, and Steve invite you to take a closer listen at some well-known hymns, new and old, to look at where they come from in the Scriptures. Sometimes we learn the faith by singing it, rather than memorizing Bible verses or listening to sermons. So what happens in that interplay between the listening ear, the thinking brain, the pull of the emotions, and the stirrings of the spirit? Our first hymn to explore is that beloved Christmas spiritual out of the Black church tradition, "Go Tell It On The Mountain," and as we do, we'll consider how hymns let us "play" with biblical imagery, invite us into the stories we know, and stretch our faithful imaginations when we listen and sing. Join us for a summer series that will have you singing along, too, and thinking more deeply about the hymns through which we learn our Story.
