In this first episode of a new series of conversations, pastors Erica, Sarah, and Steve take a look at a couple of Jesus' "hard sayings"--things that are either difficult to understand, or easy to understand but hard to live out. As people of faith who wrestle with texts like these, we'll discover that it's worth taking the time to dig into sayings of Jesus that can be challenging, and that the real and living Jesus of the Scriptures is a wilder, richer, deeper, fiercer, and more mysterious figure than the flannel board pictures of Jesus we might have grown up with in Sunday School. In this episode, the conversation around the table turns to Jesus' well-known saying, "Let the dead bury their own dead," to a would-be disciple, and then a strange parable of Jesus where the hero is a crook....who gets praised for being crooked! Join us as we open up a couple of cans of worms and explore these sayings and stories of Jesus!
