Coach nad Sign Guy are Proud and Honored to interview Tony Kozina Since June 2018, Tony Kozina has been the Pro-Wrestling Coach at the New Zealand Dojo. As a member of the Dojo training system, bringing 27 years of experience to the role, Kozina is responsible for shaping the minds and abilities of the prospects. Trained by the late Matt Borne, Billy Jack Haynes, and aided in the Lucha Libre style by Rey Misterio Sr., Kozina cultivated a deep and rich respect for the wrestling business. Kozina has competed throughout North America, with notable appearances in WWE, Ring of Honor, IMPACT Wrestling, and the National Wrestling Alliance, where he has had multiple NWA Junior Heavyweight Title reigns. In time, Kozina came to share his knowledge in training other wrestlers, the likes of which included Kyle O’Reilly, Aaron Solo, Davey Richards, and Bad Luck Fale. Kozina also contributed to Fale’s training during his NJPW excursion: “I have many great memories with Fale in St. Louis,” Kozina recalled. “Fale’s positivity and open-minded attitude made it so easy. We trained both in the gym and at Absolute Martial Arts, doing kickboxing daily for a year. Fale did everything in the gym, despite the size difference.” Years later when Fale became a top NJPW star, he never forgot the impact that Kozina had on his journey. At Fale’s request, Kozina accepted the position of Fale Dojo Pro Wrestling Coach and relocated to Auckland, New Zealand. Kozina’s approach in American wrestling aligned in many respects with Fale’s Japanese strong style training from the New Japan Dojo. The most common principal was that Fale and Kozina viewed professional wrestling as a fight. “This is about ‘you vs. you,’” Kozina alluded to some of the values that involved breaking the prospects down and then rebuilding and conditioning them, in order to endure New Japan’s high-level competition.
