GENESIS 40:14 JOSEPH ASKS THE CUPBEARER TO REMEMBER HIM

14 "Only * keep me in mind when it goes well with you, and please do me a kindness by mentioning me to Pharaoh and get me out of this house.

What was Joseph’s frame of mine when he asked to be remembered?   We know that he wanted out of that prison.  He also knew that the cupbearer was in a unique position to influence  Pharoah to familiarize him the Joseph’s situation.

But notice that Joseph is not assigning blame to his brothers, Potiphar or his wife for his imprisonment.  In other words, he wasn’t interested in them being condemned because he was supremely interested in having someone to speak on his behalf, that is, to someone who had the power to release him from prison.  How often have we spilled our gut to someone whom we thought could resolve our problem only to find out you were talking to a ‘wannabe’ who had no power of resolution, and you say, “I want to speak to your manager. I want to speak to someone who has the authority to resolve my issue!”  Joseph wanted his prison connection to connect him with Pharoah.  The lesson for us here is to not waste time trying to condemn those who have falsely accused us or to justify ourselves.  Sure we could say all kinds of horrible things about them to others, but what is the point of wasting time and words?  As Joseph did, we must trust that God is able to vindicate us in ways that we can’t even imagine.  For Joseph it was interpreting dreams.
